Bears split with Hawks in MCCAA Series

FLINT - The Mott Community College baseball team managed a split in a four-game series with Henry Ford College in an MCCAA matchup on Friday and Monday. 

The Bears took game one at home 2-1 on the strength of a complete game by Conor Sweeny, but the Hawks took game two 5-0. HFC topped Mott 7-6 in game one on Monday at the Corner Ballpark in Detroit. Mott secured the split with a 6-5 win in the finale. 

The results moved Mott to 9-18 overall and 9-8 in the MCCAA. The Bears sit three games back in the MCCAA standings with eight games to play. 

Game One on Friday:

• Luke Trotter had a triple and the lone Mott RBI.

• Sweeny (1-4) tossed all seven innings allowing one unearned run on five hits, while striking out four. 

Game Two on Friday:

• Timothy Geottes had two hits including a double. 

• Trent Hankamp added a double.

• Ben Proulx (1-2) started and took the loss. He allowed three runs on three hits, while walking one. 

Game One on Monday:

• Trenton Kriewaldt hit a home run and recorded a walk. 

• Cross Darby added two hits, two runs, and two RBIs.

• Luke Dupois had two hits, a double, and two RBIs.

• Aidan Cassidy (1-2) took the loss in relief, allowing two runs on one hits, while walking two.

Game Two on Monday:

• Ryan Metz went 3-for-4 with a run scored and three RBIs. 

• Geottes and Dupois each had two hits including a double. 

• Brady Tobias (1-0) got the win, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.

• Carter Bitner (1) got the save, striking out three in two scoreless innings.

The Bears play four this week against Jackson College starting at 2 pm on Thursday in Jackson, Mich.
